Over 15,000 Israelis have already signed the petition calling upon President Shimon Peres to refuse to accept the Medal of Freedom from US President Barak Obama until the White House releases Jonathan Pollard.
According to the Yediot Achronot report, the petition is backed by some prominent figures in Israeli society, including elected officials, prominent members of the academic community and entertainers.
The petition simply states that it is irreconcilable to accept such a medal, with all it stands for, while Jonathan Pollard remains imprisoned.
Meanwhile, President Shimon Peres wrote on his Facebook page that when he meets US President Barack Obama in June he will ask him to release Jonathan Pollard. “As the State’s president I see the greatest importance in acting decisively to bring about the release of Jonathan Pollard,” the president wrote.

Who’s willing to trade Pollards freedom for their vote for Obama? If we promised Obama a 1/2 million votes you think he’ll free Jonathan? How about million votes?
I do not think that even freeing Pollard is worth the danger to Israel and the free world if Obama gets reelected. Until now, the only thing holding him back from behaving like an absolute lunatic, is the chance for reelection. If he is reelected, he can do anything he likes as long as he wont face impeachment.
