Santorum: If You Haven’t Cursed Out A NYT Reporter During A Presidential Campaign, You Aren’t A Real Republican

Rick Santorum had a heated exchange Sunday night during an interview with a reporter, accusing him of “distorting” the candidate’s words.

The incident took place after a speech in Wisconsin where the former Pennsylvania senator reportedly said that Mitt Romney “is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.”

“Pick any other Republican in the country,” Santorum said, according to The Associated Press. “He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.”

Santorum was asked by New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny whether he really thought that Romney was the “worst Republican” to face Obama. In response, Santorum said that Zeleny was “distorting” his words.

“Quit distorting my words. It’s (word removed by YWN),” Santorum said.

Santorum said that he was only referring to Romney on the matter of healthcare. Santorum has repeatedly argued that because of the Massachusetts healthcare reform law put in place while Romney was governor, his GOP rival is uniquely incapable of being an effective candidate against President Obama. Santorum charges that the law is too similar to the Obama administration’s federal healthcare reform law.

“On the issue of healthcare, yes, that’s what I was talking about,” Santorum told reporters later on. “ObamaCare, as you heard me say.”

On Monday, Santorum attempted to shrug off the exchange.

“If you haven’t cursed out a New York Times reporter during the presidential campaign, you aren’t a real Republican,” Santorum said in an interview with Fox News.

  1. I’ll probably vote for Romney, but Santorum gets an A+, both for his exchange for the NYT reporter, and for his comment above that you’re not a real Republican if you haven’t cursed a NYT reporter out at least once. I’d also add that one is not really informed as to Jewish and other issues currently at hand if they haven’t done so, at least under their breath.

  2. Rav Avigdor Miller, ZT”L, called the NY Times the worst paper in the country, promoting atheism and immorality, virtually every day.

  3. I love it. If a Democrat did this, people on here would be hysterically crying how the nivel peh demonstrates the candidate’s loose morals. But when Ricky does it? No problem.

  4. That’s because Democrats have loose morals. Santorum has adequately demonstrated that however little sense he has, his morals are sound. And there’s nothing wrong with the word he used, even if the YWN’s ears are too eidel for it.

  5. Millhouse shows his usual insight into morality or his lack thereof. Santorum keeps making stupid remarks and then blames others for “distorting” his intentions. This guy has no midos, nothwithstanding his feeble efforts to style himself as the “family values’ candidate. His values may be those of right wing teabagggers, but every poll shows more than half of Republican voters believe that he could not beat Obama. We are voting for a President and Commander in Chief, NOT a mashgiach ruchani.

  6. “Gadol” has shown once again that he really isnt a gadol in much, other than being a gadol b’liberalism which is AGAINST the Torah.

  7. Katanbatorah complains of nivul peh and then uses a much worse term himself. “T*******rs”?! Santorum’s midos are excellent, halevai that all of us should have such excellent midos. Of course he’s also an oved avoda zara, so not everything he does should be copied, but in midos and morality he’s a great role mode.
