Tragedy struck Ashdod on motzei Shabbos with the sudden petira of Mrs. Penina Ochana. Her son was supposed to be standing under the chupah today, Sunday, 2 Nissan 5772.
Uncertain as to what should be done the family turned to Maran Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlita. The rav instructed them to delay the chasnah due to the tragic circumstances, that has befallen the family. He added that despite the young man’s aveilus for his mother z”l and the sefiras haomer, they may get married after Pesach, during the sefira.

While in general we don’t push off a chassanah, even for the death of a parent, there is nothing so unusual about making a chassanah after Pesach during the sefira. In America many chassanas are during week following Pesach before Rosh Chodesh, as many people hold that there are only 33 days of aveilus during the sefira that are observed, and they can begin on the first day of Pesach and end on Lag B’Omer or start on Rosh Chodesh Iyar and end at the shloshes yemei hagballah.
With no intent to question the Rav, what is the reason for the psak? I recall that we don’t delay a Chasuna once all the preparations are done even if the Chosson or Kallah become Aveilim – though the Chasuna is delayed if the preparations are not yet done. Here, with a Sunday Chasuna, it’s pretty certain that the preparations were already completed. Therefore, can anyone enlighten me as to what Rav Ovadia, Shlita’s reasoning was?

I attended the Chasana of a close relative many years ago with basically the same scenario.
The mother of Chasan was niftar on Shabbos and Chasana scheduled for Sunday.I believe local Rav called Rav Moishe ZT’L who had them make the Chasana on schedule,Levaya on Monday and Choson started Shiva later.
It obviously happenned a number of years ago.Did not see psak,but that was what happened.

As for situation of the Bride/Groom being Korov of the deceased, they only delay Shiva, if marriage had already been consumated; However, before such time, if Bride/Groom becomes Onein or is in Shiva, they have to delay Shivas Yemei Mishtei {even if after Chuppah but before consumation} until after Shiva.
In these unfortunate cases, it may possibly be permitted during Sheloshim, but here Sheloshim is abrogated by Pesach.
Nechoma’s comment, that there is nothing so unusual of holding a Chasunoh during last week of Nisson, is only in Ashkenazic world, where they can pretty much follow 1st or last 33 days, and even switch from one year to the next. But in Sephardi world, 1st 33 days is universal, so the Pesak of the Godol haDor, Moreinu hoRav Ovadiah Yosef is a huge Chiddush in the Sephardi world.
But Availus during Sephiras ho’Omer is predicated on Minhog, whereas Availus on 1st day >>> day of Kevuroh [especially if same Hebrew date as Petiroh] is probably a Chiyuv mid’Oraisso, as of -course is Chiyuv to get married. So the Gadlus of the Godol haDor, Moreinu hoRav Ovadiah Yosef is shining clear & bright.

Since you no doubt hold yourself to be a bigger posek for the sfardim than Chacham Yosef, I, as a pashut Ashkenazi, will try to enlighten you.
PERHAPS it has to do with a possible fact that sfardim DONT make chasunas from Pesach till 33 Omer???
That would be a simple guess on my part just from learning (but not remembering too much) the m’chaber in the Shulchan Aruch.
