Actually, the Gregorian Calendar was proposed in the 16th century but was adopted onlyu by Catholic countries as Protestant countries wanted nothing to do with any new item proposed by a Pope. It was gradually adopted over the next 200 years , with Britain and its Empire converting in 1752.
