Rabbi Pesach Lerner, the Executive Vice President of the National Council of Young Israel, and Shlomo Z. Mostofsky, Esq., the immediate Past President of the National Council of Young Israel, today called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to meet with the Republican presidential candidates about Iran. During a trip to the United States this week, Prime Minister Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama. The meeting with the President is expected to focus primarily on the topic of Iran.
Rabbi Lerner is currently taking a six-month sabbatical, during which time he is focusing his efforts and energy on a number of critical and pressing issues that face the Jewish community and the State of Israel.
“The United States and Israel are at a critical juncture regarding Iran and its outright defiance of international calls to cease advancement of its nuclear ambitions,” said Lerner and Mostofsky. “With a presidential election looming on the horizon, it would behoove our esteemed Prime Minister and the Israeli government to make absolutely certain that each of the candidates are acutely aware of the grave threat that a nuclear Iran poses to Israel, the United States, and the entire international community.”
“The development of a comprehensive and sound strategy to address the Iranian threat has to be a collaborative effort between the United States and Israel,” continued Lerner and Mostofsky. “Involving the potential leaders of this nation in these sensitive discussions is unquestionably a prudent approach.”
Rabbi Lerner and Mostofsky also questioned why some individuals and organizations have stated that the Prime Minister should not meet with the Republican presidential candidates, lest he be perceived as taking sides in the presidential campaign.
“With the future of the State of Israel at stake, it is particularly perplexing that people would choose to put partisan politics above the need to ensure the safety and security of our Israeli brethren,” said Lerner and Mostofsky. “We need to be focused on properly addressing the danger that Iran presents to the world, not worrying about petty political perceptions.”

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Netanyahu meeting with the MAJOR Republican candidates. In fact, this has been a practice BY OTHER WORLD LEADERS in the past. The only people who are irked by this possibility are the Obama folks and their fellow travellers.
