NY Govornor Spitzer has asked the Metropolitan Transit Authority to come back with a proposal that will keep subway fares at $2 and fulfill their fiscal obligations.

“Based on the current economic climate that has so many New Yorkers feeling squeezed, it seemed only proper that this amount be returned to the riders,” Spitzer told the Associated Press.

Spitzer’s move comes amid news that year-end revenues for the MTA will be higher than expected.
