When I first came to Israel and told people from France that I was from the Bronx they asked how I could live in such a dangerous place. For that matter, when the first Gulf War broke the chevruta of a friend of mine received a hysterical phone call from his mother. After she calmed down she told him in a matter-of-fact manner that his brother had been robbed at gunpoint.
