Beinish Steps Down from High Court of Justice

High Court of Justice President Justice Dorit Beinish stepped down from her position on Tuesday 5 Adar 5772, coinciding with her 70th birthday. She read her last ruling aloud, a petition heard by a seven-justice panel challenging regulations determining one’s eligibility for supplemental income.

The court ruled against the current regulation which renders one ineligible for receiving supplementary income if one has a vehicle. The court ruled against this, explaining one’s eligibility cannot be linked to owning a car or having steady access to a vehicle since this opposes one basic right to live in a respectful fashion.

The court’s vice president, Justice Eliezer Rivlin was to have assumed the post as head of the court, but decided to wave this right since he plans to step down in a number of months. As such, the new president of the High Court of Justice is Justice Asher Dan Grunis.
