The Port Authority has created a “Wall of Shame” on its website to herald a new zero-tolerance policy on toll evaders.
The wall lists the names of the top 37 deadbeats as of December – individuals and businesses that collectively owe the Port Authority more than $1.5 million in tolls at its Hudson River crossings. Penalties for nonpayment push the total past $5 million.
“Moving forward, it’s pay up or face the consequences,” said Pat Foye, the Port Authority’s executive director, in a statement. “I will have zero tolerance for truckers and motorists who cheat the system and short-change the rest of us.”
Toward that end, Foye directed the Port Authority Police Department to step up enforcement at toll plazas. Five motorists were arrested Friday alone on charges of theft of service at the George Washington Bridge.
He has asked prosecutors in New York and New Jersey to pursue the most egregious deadbeats.
The wall doesn’t specify how the 37 evaded paying tolls or over what period of time, but the most common tactic is to use E-ZPass lanes at bridges and tunnels without an E-ZPass account or without money in an account.

EZ Pass should be on the hall of shame for charging ridiculous prices. If one drives through an EZ Pass lane without an EZ Pass devise then I think EZ Pass has the obligation to track down and collect payment. There is a reason why there are cameras to take note of the license plate number
