The FBI has joined the investigation into what caused a Cornwall industrial park to go up in flames last month.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the Jan. 15 fire at the Cornwall Industrial Park on Mill Road, which destroyed several businesses, could be a case of arson.

State and county fire investigators have now been joined by the FBI, which has raised the possibility that arson could be the cause of the inferno.

The entire western portion of the industrial park was destroyed in the blaze, taking numerous businesses with it – most of them Jewish owned.

MonseyScoop.com reported at the time of the blaze, that this is the very same building which had over a million dollars in structural damage from Hurricane Irene, this past summer.

More than a dozen Jewish businesses on premises were largely out of work after the Mudna Creek crested over its banks and wiped out companies from a packaging firm to closeout shipping yard to a furniture seller. The waves moved walls and swamped goods worth millions of dollars. The destruction had placed in jeopardy more than 700 jobs if there were no emergency loans and grants to save these businesses.

Congresswoman Nan Hayworth (R) who represents New York’s 19′th Congressional District, visited the 300,000 Square foot industrial complex in Cornwall that was largely wiped out by Hurricane Irene.

Following a few media reports, the devastation came to the forefront and officials requested to visit the site. First of them was the Congresswoman who toured the site Sunday a week after the storm but has been missing in action since. Recently, Senator Charles Schumer is pushing for a $5 million SBA loan for a packaging firm that did business at that location until the Hurricane threatened to eliminate more than 400 jobs.
