The cabinet on Sunday, 12 Shevat 5772, approved the establishment of a rail line between Tel Aviv and the southern port city of Eilat. The new railway will serve commuters and cargo, cutting travel time to two hours. If all goes according to plan, the new line will be operational within 5 years from the start of construction.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke of the realities of the upcoming decade and the need to prepare for new realities, including a Suez Canal bypass route as a safeguard in light of the ongoing instability in neighboring Arab nations. Mr. Netanyahu added that since the founding of the state there has been talk of the need to connect outlying areas with the center of the country and his administration is bringing this to fruition.
This and other projects, such as a gas pipeline he feels serve as insurance for the future towards advancing Israel’s strategic, industrial and economic aspirations.

Will this train operate on Yom Tov Sheni? since Eilat is not in the boundaries of Eretz Yisroel as dileanated in Massei.
The Religious Zionists hold Eliat is within Eretz Yisrael since they hold by a more expansive definition.
The issue that 147 brings up is not a problem since Moshiach will most certainly arrive before this train is operational.
