As NYPD raises its alert level for shuls and Jewish institutions in NYC amid “Israel-Iranian tensions”, Israel has sent an alert to embassies and consulates around the world to step up security as well.
According to an ABS News report based on a confidential document in an Israeli Embassy in Philadelphia, there are concerns among Israeli security and intelligence experts regarding an attack against Israeli institutions as tensions between Jerusalem and Tehran mount. The world media continues speculating, with estimates of an Israeli offensive against Iran measuring between 50%-70%, leaving many, including the United States with an uneasy feeling.
The report cites the possibility of terrorists entering an Israeli diplomatic facility with a forged passport to carry out an attack. Such an attack would be significantly easier against an Israeli or Jewish facility that does not maintain security on the level of an embassy and consulate.
Ironically, while the US and the international community continues to fear and Israeli attack, well-aware of the ramifications, those very fears, which are based on Iran’s military abilities. This is the reason Israel is concerned and its intelligence community has been warning the international community for years, including the USA, but the latter’s intelligence experts insisted that Israel’s assessments exhibit unwarranted concern.
In Israel, senior government officials continue to call for immediate stiffer sanctions against Iran, adding the problem if far from an Israeli issue alone, but one that poses a threat to the international free world.
