Israel: Ministry of Education Pulls Pro-Religion Questionnaire

The Ministry of Education has distributed a questionnaire to elementary school students around the country. Among the questions asked is “How much do you believe in G-d”.

The questionnaire adds that researches have shown that religious faith has a healing power and it may prolong life. “Religious faith may diminish behavioral patters that contribute to illness such as smoking and alcohol abuse, to give one a positive outlook on life, and more self esteem”.

A parent told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) she is opposed to the pro-Emunah questionnaire, adding “I don’t want my child asking me why we do not go to shul and why we do not daven, contributing to sickness in the home. I was in shock to see this in the State of Israel. I do not believe in the goal of this missionary questionnaire”.

The mainstream media also poked fun at the questionnaire which is being withdrawn by the ministry.

  1. interesting that the parent who spoke to galei tzahal didn’t say it wasn’t true that it helps behavioral patterns. the parent just was scared that if he/she would be confronted by their child, he/she would not have what to answer. noone likes facing the truth if it hurts them.

  2. Rather than getting a story out of the (b’H fast diminishing!) number of nebuch people who are still either simply ignorant or hallila anti, how about talking about the bli ayin haraa VAST majority of Am Yisrael that the recent survey showed DO believe!
