Inclement weather, including very high wind gusts, rainstorms and unseasonably cold weather has knocked down trees in a number of cities, including in the Gush Etzion area.
The Gush communities were hit hard with the winter storm Wednesday morning, 8 Shevat 5772, particularly Yishuv N’vei Daniel, which is almost 1,000 meters above sea level. An electric pole was knocked down in N’vei Daniel by the strong wind gusts. Baruch Hashem there were no injuries reported.
As a result of the storm weather, the March of the Lamed Hey planned for tomorrow, Thursday, 9 Shevat, has been canceled. Thousands were expected to take part in the event on Thursday night.
The Convoy of the Lamed Hey HY”D occurred in 1948, beginning on January 16th, when the 38 soldiers of the Haganah began their effort to make their way to Gush Etzion, under siege by the Arab Legion forces. On their way to the Gush, three men headed back because one of them sustained a leg injury. The remaining 35 were detected near Tzurif and wiped out.
Most of the bodies were not identifiable and HaTzaddik HaRav Aryeh Levine performed the ‘Goral HaGra’ on the remains.
