Report: Newt Gingrich Doesn’t Call Romney To Congratulate Him

Newt Gingrich gave his post-primary speech tonight while gracelessly declining to congratulate the man who beat him by double digits. According to the Romney campaign, Gingrich hadn’t called to congratulate the Florida winner as of 9:30 p.m. ET.

The speech was vintage Gingrich, comparing his predicament to Lincoln at Gettysburg and vowing to conduct a “people’s campaign.” He made one small run at Romney, calling him “the Massachusetts moderate,” and then wandered into a rather trite recitation of his commitment to change. He rambled a bit, getting nostalgic about his Contract with America and assuring us he’d been studying “how to do this” since 1958. (He was running for president as a child?) He is going to get rid of White House czars, move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and halt the war on religion.

He might go on, as he promised. But, really, how many Republicans will follow him?

  1. The moment Gingrich became so arrogant & abusive, we changed our minds and voted for Mitt Romney, as have many of our Floridan neighbors & friends.

Personal attacks have no place in politics. Gingrich’s ranting & raving has cost him the nomination, just as Howard Dean’s ranting & fraving cost him the nomination.

At least Rick Saotorum & Ron Paul have a chance of being offered to run on Mitt Romney’s ticket as vice president. Obviously, Ginrich doesn’t even stand a chance of being on the ticket; Not even somewhere further down in a cabinet post.

  2. Well who can blame Mr Newt? Romney – the Establishment’s Choice -is running a sleazy campaign much like he did in 08.

  3. This sounds like Newt being Newt.
Personally, I hope Newt wins the nomination. it will make the electikon much easier for President Obama.

  4. Call to congratulate after each primary? Is that really the custom? It would be like a baseball team congratulating the other team after they have a good inning.

  5. Sleazy campaign, Mark? Blame Citizens United, Big Money, and the Supreme Court…for all of you who CLAIM not to like “activist judges” (assuming you can come up with a definition of that term that makes an iota of sense)that should be a no-brainer!
