Israel: New Speed Cameras Deploying on Sunday

12 of the planned 40 new high tech speed detection cameras are going operational on Sunday, February 5, 2012, a move that is expected to yield the state millions of shekels in income from fines. Eight of the cameras will be monitoring compliance with traffic signals and four will monitor vehicle speed on roadways and tailgating.

The new cameras are among the most advanced available, and reports indicated the camera is capable of photographing vehicles milliseconds apart, which means if one speeds and maintains a close distance to a speeding vehicle ahead, the camera is capable of snapping both and mailing the fines, which will be in one’s mailbox within three days of the offense.

Unofficial reports indicate the cameras are set to photograph any vehicles traveling at a speed that exceeds 10% over the maximum permitted speed.

HaMevaser reports the state expects to earn 1 billion NIS from fine generated revenue annually.

  1. “a move that is expected to yield the state millions of shekels in income from fines.” interesting that the goal has nothing to do with trying to get people to drive more carefully and slowly but rather how to fill the pockets of the already corrupt government and make sure they live higher lives.

  2. what a money spinner

for those with blackberry, you can download “waze” for free and it will update you all the time when you come near a camera

it also gives you updates in real time of any speed traps on the way you are travelling

    safe driving everyone
