A tractor trailer overturned on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway near the Brooklyn Bridge early Monday, creating rush hour traffic woes for rush hour commuters, officials said.
According to reports, the truck was carrying four containers which containers fell off the back of the truck causing even more debris.
Additionally, chains supporting the containers apparently broke, releasing them onto the street below the highway.
No one was injured in the accident, but the accident forced officials to temporarily block all Queens-bound lanes. The lanes were still closed as of 10:00AM.
Eyewitnesses tell YWN that the traffic is backed up all the way onto the Gowanus Expressway, Prospect Expressway – and until Ocean Parkway.
Please consider alternate routes.
UPDATE 10:30AM: The highway has been reopened.
