While the general strike in Belgium which began on Sunday, January 29, 2012 was only set to last until Monday, January 30, 2012, for chosson Leibish Rosenfeld it was most significant. His chasnah is set in New York City for Monday night, January 31, 2012, and when they landed in Brussels for their connecting flight to New York City, they learned of the strike, Chadrei Chareidim reports.
As a result, 50 flights were canceled, including the El Al flight that Leibish was planning to take to New York City.
Making things more difficult was the fact that it was a general strike, not just the airport, halting all public transportation. The latter might have offered a solution towards traveling elsewhere to catch a flight.
Askanim of the Antwerp chareidi community have been working to accommodate those who are stranded as a result of the strike.

We recently had to cut short a Shiva in Israel because of a general strike by the Histadrut in Israel. It caused unfortold misery to our family in the midst of mourning to have to change plans because of a strike, as well as incur extra charges.
These strikes stink, and all countries should have Taylor’s law, urgently.
It would be really unfortunate if they have to delay the chassanah until later in the week but somthing in this story is unclear. This “general strike” had been widely publicized for over a week. Why would anyone who is getting married in NYC and has a connecting flight wait for the day prior to the wedding to fly over from EY and not consider the risk of his flight being delayed given that the strike was announced in advance?? I hope the chosson/kalah will still be able to have their wedding soon.
Shouldnt be too difficult either drive him to Paris or London only a few hours!
