TRAGEDY IN FLATBUSH: R’ Noach Foxman Z”L; Struck & Killed By A Hit-&-Run Vehicle On Coney [UPDATED 8:45AM EST]


YWN regrets to inform you of the tragic Petira of R’ Noach Yaakov Foxman Z”L, who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run vehicle on Coney Island Avenue, Thursday night.

The tragic accident unfolded at around 10:30PM, when R’ Noach was crossing Coney Island Avenue and Avenue K, when he was struck by a vehicle. He was conscious and alert, and told bystanders to call for an ambulance. Then, as he lay in the crosswalk in the rain, a speeding vehicle struck him very hard, and took off without stopping.

Flatbush Hatzolah raced to the scene, and did everything they could to try and save his life. He was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, but was R”L pronounced dead a few minutes after arriving at the hospital.

Police were combing the streets late at night looking for the second vehicle, reported to be a dark colored small-sized SUV.

Reb Noach Z”L was a fixture at the Bais Medrash of HaRav Hillel David Shlita, where he Davened for many years.

Shocked friends and neighbors gathered at the scene until past midnight, and awaited the Levaya details.

UPDATE 8:45AM EST: The latest Levaya information available is that it will be held at Shomrei Hachomos Chapels on Ft Hamiltion Parkway, in Boro Park around 12:00 Noon (exact time to be published when available).

  1. BD”E this is lo alainu a horrible tragedy. I’m just wondering if people were there and he was conscious after the 1st car hit him why was he laying unprotected in the street? There must be more details that were not included in the article. I do not raise this question to be a yenta rather if there is something bystanders can do to protect a future victim before cops or hatzolo arrive it should be publicized.

  2. To “laytzonay hador omrim”. There were 2 people trying to direct traffic around. The second driver to hit R’ Noach didn’t even slow down and apparently didn’t see.

  3. He was a choshuver talmid chochom, who always had a smile on his face.
    I worked together with him for many years and went to a bungalow colony with him.
    Noach was a walking kiddush Hashem.
