The Bnei Brak home of HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita is under construction. Walls are being broken to connect it to the home of the rav’s son. A number of weeks ago the rav awakened on Friday night and stared at the walls. He told those present “I fear they may have destroyed the wall on which the miracle of the grasshopper occurred”, the Merkaz HaInyanim newspaper reports.
The paper reported that after the rav learned the halachos regarding the kashrus of grasshoppers, having difficulty with one particular Halacha, suddenly, a grasshopper appeared on the wall. Those present understood this as a sign, testimony to the glory of the rav’s learning and his commitment to understanding the Holy Torah.
This is the wall the rav was referring to when he stated he hopes they did not destroy the wall upon which the miracle occurred.
Rav Kanievsky is quoted as saying “The story involving the Chida is well known, the miracle that took place on the stairs near his home and after a period of time he wished to cover those stairs with gold as a sign of what had taken place. He felt this would strengthen Jews, to bring them to realize who runs the world”.
The rav concluded that this is why it is so important that this particular wall is not destroyed, to permit others to see it and understand the miracle that occurred.

The story is usually told about a grasshopper,
an insect that can be confused with a cricket.
