Maran Posek HaDor HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita on Thursday (24 Teves 5772) was a sandek at a bris and immediately thereafter, was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center for a number of ‘routine tests’. After the tests, the posek hador requested to visit with his son, HaGaon Rav Avraham Elyashiv, who is listed in serious condition. The rav was taken to the eighth floor where his son remains hospitalized and sat at his side for a number of minutes.

Before the Posek HaDor left, the person in the bed next to his son, Nissim Peretz, broke down crying. When they inquired as to why he was so emotional, he explained 60 years earlier, as a student in Porat Yosef, he and others were taken to meet with Rav Elyashiv, to catch a glimpse of the Torah giant. Since then explained Avraham, “I have not been so good observing Torah and mitzvot but I will never forget that experience”.

Avraham added, “I have been here for a few days and realize I am next to an important person. Today, seeing his father, for the first time in 60 years, I understood just who is in the bed at my side. I was simply overcome with emotion, thrown back to reflecting about that beautiful portion of my life”.

The tzibur is requested to be mispallel for Rav Yosef Sholom ben Chaya Musha who remains weak.
