Amid widespread media coverage speaking of his stepping down as a hesder rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Elyakim Levanon Shlita on Monday evening, January 16, 2012 explained the reports are simply inaccurate.
The rav is quoted by the Kipa dati leumi website as denying the accuracy of these reports, explaining that this is not his way, a firm believer in dialogue and addressing issues, not resigning and walking away. Rabbi Levanon told the media on Monday night, 16 January 2012, that the Haaretz report was simply incorrect and his resigning as rosh yeshiva was never a consideration.
It was reported that Rabbi Levanon decided to officially resign as rosh yeshiva, removing himself from the hesder framework to permit him to speak out freely against the IDF’s trampling of Halacha.
As of Monday night, persons close to the rav signal that he has not yet stepped down as rosh yeshiva and they are not aware that he has any such plan. They add the rav has never been afraid to state his opinion, which is in line with Torah and Halacha, and this case will not be an exception.
