Route 9 was closed for three hours Saturday night while police investigated a two vehicle crash involving a Lakewood Police car and a civilian vehicle – as originally reported HERE on YW.
According to the Asbury Park Press, Patrolman Michael Lorenc, 25, was responding to a police call at 11:24 p.m. and traveling north on Route 9 with his police lights activated, when he collided with a 2004 Chevy Impala driven by a Lakewood man.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts and there was no significant injury to either driver. Lakewood Hatzolah & Lakewood First Aid Squad transported both to Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood where they were treated and released.
The investigation is continuing and no summonses have been issued at this time, Work said.
Anyone who has information about the collision or who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Lakewood Police Department at (732) 363-0200 ext. 5380.

That does not surprise me. Actually according to the letter of the law in NJ the only vehicle that can jump a red light is the mail man (since he is a federal vehicle).
