The Times Herald Record reports: Town of Fallsburg taxpayers can expect to see a 3.95 % increase in their property tax rates next year, according to the 2008 preliminary budget.
The town’s proposed spending plan for 2008 is $15.5 million, more than $1.26 million over last year’s budget of $14.2 million.
The rate per $1,000 of assessed value would climb from $11.30 to $11.75, not including water, sewer and fire districts. The sewage rate is set to go up 7.65 %; the water rate would increase 7.42 %.
The board has scheduled a public hearing on the budget for 7:30PM, Nov. 13 at Town Hall.

The ganovim in the catskills use property taxes as a method of ripping-off the Yidden who are there for only 2-3 months a year.

The Catskill Alliance IS The Problem. I joined and voted as they recommended. What a mistake!What have they done for us in the past two years since they were formed?
Instead of taxes going down as they promised, taxes are going up (and their candidates won, only thanks to us).
The only ones that have benefitted are the developers who now have a voice there. We Heimishe taxpayers who use Fallsburg’s services for two months a year and support 70% of their local budget for the whole year are continually being ripped off and the voice we think we have is not our voice but that of fat-cat businessmen (leider – from our community as well). We have not benefited one iota and are about to be taken advantage of, once again.
Askanim should see this as a wake up call. A committee representing us – the summer residents – not the developers – should be established to replace the corrupt Catskill Alliance. This should happen immediately.
The Town of Fallsburg is taking advantage of the fact that Vishnitz is now all year long at Gibber’s and now more and more of the hotels are going glatt kosher.
Why is this news. In lakewood my taxes are up about 60% in the past 2 years and nobody says a word. Keep voting for the self serving askanims candidates and eventually you will not be able to afford your house.
For your information, Flatbusher, I happen to own a “tumbledown bungalow”. I bought it 31 years ago. I pay more tax today in one year than I paid for the whole bungalow, then. The taxes keep going up with no end in sight. I would have trouble selling it now because it is not winterized and its so old.
May I respectfully suggest that you sell your Flatbush home and move to a basement in Lakewood. You, too, can use the money to feed the poor and other noble causes.
