The NYPD has arrested a suspect in connection with four firebombings in Queens and a fifth on Long Island Sunday.
The suspect apparently confessed under questioning.
Surveillance video of the suspect throwing a homemade firebomb at a house in Jamaica, Queens was released earlier this week. An Islamic center was among the suspect’s targets as was a house used as a Hindu worship site and two convenience stores.
Video of the suspect’s car with Virginia license plates helped cops bring him in for questioning at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.
Cops believe he was kicked out of a store Dec. 22 for trying to steal glass Starbucks bottles.
Similar bottles were used in at least four of the attacks, Kelly said.
A sketch of the suspect was also released by the NYPD. He was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and approximately 200 pounds.
Islamic leaders and Mayor Michael Bloomberg met Tuesday to discuss the firebombing.
