WCBSTV: Suspect Being Questioned Following Series Of Firebomb Attacks In Queens

Sources tell CBS 2 that police picked up a suspect last night and are questioning him as part of the investigation into at least four firebombing attempts in Queens, and possibly a fifth on Long Island.

The incidents are being investigated as hate crimes.

Police released a sketch of the suspect and stunning surveillance video that shows someone hurling a flaming Molotov cocktail.

The suspect is described a black man, 25-30 years old, 5’8″, and about 200 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket and baseball cap. The suspect was driving a light-colored, four-door sedan.

Four of the attacks occurred within two hours of each other and took place in Jamaica. They were all within just two miles of each other. Targets included a mosque and a home which houses a Hindu temple.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is meeting this morning with the leaders of the Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center, which was targeted in one of the attacks. Bloomberg will be joined by religious and community leaders this morning in denouncing the attacks.
