MK Challenges Jerusalem Mehadrin Bus

MK (Likud) Tzipi Hotovely, who chairs the Knesset Committee for the Advancement of Women and also a member of the dati leumi community, on Thursday morning got on board a mehadrin bus, the 418 which travels between Beit Shemesh and Yerushalayim to show her defiance and disapproval of the gender segregation on the bus lines.

After getting off the bus, men and women took their usual seats, in the front and rear respectively. Realizing what was taking place as she was getting off the bus, Hotovely, with the media in tow, got back on the bus to decry the “discrimination against women”. The chareidi men seated in the front of the bus shouted “provocation provocation!” One passenger shouted at her “go marry a goy!”

  1. People like her don’t marry goyim, they don’t marry, they simply live with their partners. And the partner might be male or female, whatever takes the fancy at any point in time. Make no mistake about it, spitting at anyone is wrong, screaming at anyone is wrong but the moderns and the chilonim have a stack of wrongs to right as well. So far as Beit Shemesh is concerned who hasn’t heard of the tidal wave of divorces there were a few years ago in the modern orthodox community. You don’t even want to ask why.

  2. #1, FYI Tzippy Hotobelli is a frum (when she entered the Knesset she created a stir by refusing to shake hands with a male correspondent) MK who represents the sane National Religious community that wants Tora and Eretz Yisrael along with support for the State and unity among Jews not a Mafia-like chumra of the month club that has appointed itself guardians of modesty. You are a motzi shem ra who has to come here and ask mechila from her in public in order to get kappara. If you are so concerned about her marital status why don’t you write her a letter and offer your shadchanut services? As for divorces, perhaps they are due to tensions caused by these madmen.

  3. #4, She didn’t have to get on the mehadrin line. When I travel with my husband from RBS I NEVER take the 418 because that is mehadrin and I want to sit next to him. It’s called smarts. She DAVKA went on that line to cause a stir. Whey can’t chareidim feel comfortable on the busses? Where are the rights of their women and men? Why are the rights of the Dati Leumi women and secular women more important than the Chareidi Women?

  4. #5
simply because there is no halacha which calls for separate seating on buses ( it doesn’t matter which “rav” says so
the chareidim have to realize they can’t impose there way of life upon the rest of klal yisrael

  5. why was this artical not posted on all the chiloni sights they are scared to prove what they are all about LOOKING to see where they can make trouble!!!

  6. #5 Nobody has the right not to feel uncomfortable. However, people have the RIGHT to sit WHEREVER THEY PLEASE on a public bus line.

  7. Is Tzipi really so jealous of the fact that the Chareidi world is one of the last that really ensures a seperation between men and women?
If Tzipi was so worried about discrimination against women why doesn’t she protest the fact that a women can’t walk alone at midnight in Tel Aviv?
    Is’nt that discrimination?

  8. #4 you liberal. she is a machsheifah and shes not getting any mechila from me she went on a bus out of her way to “reitz un” the chareidim. women like her tend to have partners. they are full of agendas and are anti torah.

she can beg and she wont get mechila.

YES! Going on a bus for no other purpose other then to stir up controversy and bringing the media with you to record every detail is probably provocative.

  10. #6 yechezkel89,
Why do you reply to #5 before reading through the comment? read the comment again, and see for yourself that you didn’t answer it at all!
#5 brings out the fact that there are 2 bus lines, mixed and Mehadrin, those who prefer to go mixed, like #5 go on the regular buses, those (charedim basically)men who prefer not to sit in next to the neighbor’s wife, or those women who prefer not to squeeze in a seat with the friend’s husband, they want to sit with separate arrangements, choose to go on mehadrin, its a free country, there is a choice! got it?

  11. Are you serious, #9, or merely ignorant? There are “tznius patrols” in the Islamic world, too. Only they are far more violent, and the misogyny has been institutionalized, with the state meting barbaric punishments for the “crime” of not wearing the proper veil. Needless to say, this is not conduct we should aspire to.

All Yidden are equal in the eyes of HKB”H. He doesn’t care if you’re chiloni, dati leumi, yeshivish, charedi or chassidish. What we do know is that Ahavas Yisrael is the most important part of the Torah, and that Sinas Chinam was the cause of the destruction of the second Beis Hamikdosh.

מה דעלך סני לחברך לא תעביד,ואידך, פירושא הוא.

You forgot to address the comment I made.
I’m sure it was an oversight.
And exactly which conduct should we not aspire to?
From the article it seems that a group of men and women voluntarily took upon themselves to form a seperation between themselves in order to ensure an environment of modesty.
A female MK with media in tow came amongst them in order to attempt to provocate them and the vat majority of them still did not react to her, despite her attempts.
I most definetley do aspire to their behaviour.

  13. After reading all of these posts here and on other sites, I see how much hatred there is between Jews and I am really miserable about it. It doesn’t matter anymore who is right and who is wrong-both sides have behaved in ways which are frightening. Please show the world a kiddush Hashem! Let the front pages of all papers show a charedi rav and a dati leumi rav hugging each other! A charedi kid and a dati leumi kid playing together. We are all children of Hashem and I agree with byepluto that Ahavas Yisroel is the most important thing Hashem asks of us-אמר הקב”ה לישראל: בני אהובי, כלום חסרתי דבר שאבקש מכם?
