Bloomberg: City Didn’t Prevent Occupy News Coverage

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says restrictions placed on journalists did not prevent them from covering the clearing of the Occupy Wall Street encampment last month.

Bloomberg said on his weekly WOR Radio appearance Friday that city officials “didn’t keep anybody from reporting.” He says journalists “just had to stand to the side while the police did their job.”

The mayor says the press doesn’t have the right “to stand in the way” to get a story.

Last month, media organizations including The Associated Press sent letters to city officials complaining about how police handled journalists covering the protests.

They say police blocked journalists from observing the Zuccotti Park clear-out. They also say police used force and arrested some journalists as they tried to do their jobs.
