MTA Answers Greenfield’s Call To Halt Service Cuts During Erev Shabbos Rush Hour

Brooklyn – The Metropolitan Transit Authority today responded to Councilman David G. Greenfield’s call to alter a set of upcoming service changes that would have caused a major headache for Flatbush and Kensington commuters for the next two Fridays. The service changes planned by MTA New York City Transit were due to an ongoing construction project on the Q line that skips over subway stations in the heart of the Orthodox Jewish community.

The MTA intended to alter Coney Island-bound service on the Q line to skip multiple stops, including Cortelyou Road, Avenue H, Avenue J, and Avenue M. The service change was planned for 10am until 3pm on December 2nd and December 9th, disrupting the Erev Shabbos rush hour. Shabbos begins at the earliest time of the year for the next two weeks – 4:11pm.
