On a conference call this morning, Cain told his team that he is ‘reassessing’ the campaign, a source told POLITICO.
What exactly that means remains unclear – one source told POLITICO that the reference had been about how much staff and offices they could afford right now.
But others heard it as him looking to potentially drop out, as NRO’s Bob Costa indicates here.
Other sources are confirming for POLITICO that Cain made clear he’s rethinking his race. Cain campaign manager Mark Block also told ABC News’ Amy Walters that is indeed the case.
Cain is currently slated to give a foreign policy speech in Michigan, but it’s hard to see how that goes on later tonight.

Obama’s stock is rising. Romney is a classic “country club” type who supports bailouts, corporate welare and crony capitalism. From Obama’s perspective, he’s the perfect opponent.
Gingrich has been supporting himself by advising companies how to get more corporate welfare and turn government connections into profits.
While many of the other Republicans aren’t overly tainted be having supported massive corporate welfare, none of them have even come close to be serious national candidates. They all seem like professional politicians who never had a life.
Sorry #1 but Obama is not rising. BH the people out there who aren’t married to the democrats see him for what he is. Derech ha’teva he WILL lose. The question is to whom. If he wins its because HE CHEATED!
As for Cain, I hope like anything that these charges are false. The democrats are running smear campaigns against anyone who can beat their beloved Obama, especially if they have the audacity to be a black conservative.
The headline should be: “Is Cain Able?”
Mark< I agree with you 100%.
Why do you care whether or not the allegations of a 13-year extramarital by Herman Cain are true or false? Are there no other candidates who can represent your point of view? Now – not during the real election campaign or after the election – is the time to learn about the candidates, including the ones you think would best represent your interests. Some people are not what they claim to be, and if Mr. Cain is one of them, now is the time to find out.
As for your certainty that President Obama cannot win re-election without cheating, I think that represents your inability to accept the possibility that there may be more to President Obama, his policies, and his leadership than you realize, and you are afraid that a majority of the electorate may believe that he is the better alternative to whomever the Republicans nominate.
I for one am certain that no Republican president would implement the fiscal and other economic policies that will pull the US economy out of its current malaise, because they are all beholden to the failed ideology that taxation is evil and government spending is per se unwise. If President Obama is not re-elected, and the Republicans cling to their economic ideology, I see many more years of American economic stagnation.
#2- If Romney or Gingrich are running on a platform of bailouts for banks paid for by cutting services to the average person, Obama will win. Opposition to Corporate welfare is a key issue, and Romney and Gingrich have spent a career as advocates and beneficiaries of corporate welfare. Also note that Romney’s and Gingrich’s tax proposals will largely help high income tax payers, while leaving the “rest of us” (rouhgly the bottom 70% with under $100K per year) paying a 15% payroll tax in addition to the income tax – an issue that only Cain’s plan addresses.
To beat Obama, Gingrich and Romney have to find a way to become Cain — though given their past ideological flexibility won’t be a problem (we hope).
#5, how much did the Obama campaign pay you to troll this web site? Are you even Jewish?
No. 7: The answer to your question is, nothing. But if you think my comment is worth paying for, I would be happy for you to pitch the idea to the Obama folks. And if I were paid to troll, I would disclose it in my post.
And where did you get that picture of that creepy kid?
The bottom line is that the ObamaMania media will point out the flaws in ANY candidate on the other side. They will do their best to rip the Republican to shreds but they won’t bother vetting Obama. We are still waiting for the proper vetting & its been four years!!!!!
No. 9: There has been an extensive vetting of Mr. Obama in the last 4 years by all media, including main-stream media like the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Daily News and Pocatello Press. There has also been extensive story-telling about Mr. Obama by the right-wing press, including his Muslim religion, his links to Communists, his hatred of America, his “free ride” through respected institutions of higher learning, and – my favorite – his foreign birth. All of the story-telling has turned out to be, well, story-telling.
So the question you should be asking is: in the four years since Mr. Obama appeared on the national stage, why have his opponents been utterly unable to come up with any plausible dirt on him? Where are the bimbo eruptions? Why do so few people believe the story-telling about his foreign birth, his Muslim religion, his communism? Is it possible that he has been thoroughly vetted and found to be more or less what he says he is, i.e., an American who worked hard, had vision and a dream of being a major political leader, and succeeded at achieving what he wanted?
Your dislike of Mr. Obama has totally blinded you to the facts about the man. The facts are there, the facts are simple, and you don’t like them, for reasons known only to you. As you say, it’s been four years, and your beliefs about him have all proved false.
