The mayoral elections in yerushalayim will only be held in about two years, but the capital’s Chareidi factions are already looking for a candidate to compete against current Mayor Nir Barkat.
Ynet is reporting that UTJ is searching for a secular rather than religious candidate to run on its behalf.
After losing the previous mayoral elections, in which UTJ was represented by former Knesset Member Meir Porush, the faction members realized that in order to gain more portfolios they must join forces with the winning candidate.
According to a party source, a secular candidate has a better chance of winning the elections, as secular and moderate religious Jews prefer not to vote for a Charedi candidate.
According to reports, it appears that Shas is not ruling out a secular candidate either.

They did have a frum candidate, and he was wonderful. Can’t all the factions join together in achdus and elect a frum mayor for Yerushalayim, Ihr Hakodesh?
