Maran Elyashiv Visits The Kosel On Thursday


Baruch Hashem after weeks of being in a weakened state, Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita visited the Kosel on Thursday, 20 Cheshvan.

In the old days, before the liberation of the Kosel in 1967, Maran Rav Elyashiv would go to HaNevi’im Street to catch a glimpse at the site of the Har HaBayis in line with the Halacha that compels one to tear kriya (rend one’s clothes) if one does not see the ‘Makom HaMikdosh’ for a month. The
Rav’s has customarily been visiting the Kosel at least once monthly for many years, and during Tishrei, the Rav was taken to the Aish HaTorah building to permit him to see the Makom HaMikdosh. Due to his weakened condition, he was unable to make it to the Kosel.

According to a Chadrei Chareidim report, on Thursday morning, Maran told his gabbaim that he wishes to return to the Old City before a month passes. Weather realities and the accompanying clouds did not permit a glimpse from HaNevi’im Street, so the Gadol HaDor request that he be taken to the Kosel.
