In this video, NYC Councilman Simcha Felder says that garbage-picking is “one of the best things in NYC……Who can find good stuff in the garbage in the suburbs?” Click HERE to watch the video! The Daily News Blog reports that Felder was explaining how his recent liberation of an abandoned filing cabinet from City Hall, which is now being put to good use in his district office, wasn’t theft but rather the constructive reallocation of a taxpayer-financed resource that was being wrongfully neglected.

Brings home the old adage that “a penny saved is a penny earned.”
What was the hava ameana that it would be considered ganaiva??
i take offence to his slap at suburbia – my wife has found many good things for the kids – dressers, swings, teeter-totters, riding toys…
🙂
Yuck and Blech! Just when I am trying to enjoy my morning coffee! I would never dream of getting anything for my ainekel in the garbage. What an insult to a yummy, delicious child.
Reb mdlevine, I dunno if Monsey qualifies for ‘suburbia’ anymore!
joseph – you may be right, but if you go to New City on the right day…
My whole living room is from unwanted items that people did not want.
#9–I approve, but don’t tell any prospective mechutanim 🙂
If I have something good to throw out and I can not find anyone who wants it, I put in on top of the lid of my garbage cans. I would rather do it this way then put it into the garbage. I spread out clothes, shoes etc. I am very happy when people can pick them up and use them.
i think the video makes him look stupid and why dosen’t he rebut the reporter when she asks him if it’s stealing by sying it’s garbage
