One gets the impression that the public outcry against Minister of Religious Services Yaakov Margi’s decision to prevent Tzohar rabbonim from performing chupah and kedushin may have turned the tide in favor of Tzohar, at least temporarily.
YWN-ISRAEL reported earlier (link to article number 12) that Tzohar is preparing to takes its case to the Supreme Court, citing discrimination by the government ministry since chareidi badatzim are permitted to continue marrying people while Tzohar is not.
An “understanding” has been reached between Tzohar and Margi’s office by which the rabbonim received 300 teudot, certificates, permitting them to continue conducting chupah and kedushin.
It is unclear if this is a temporary move or if the crisis between the ministry and Tzohar is a thing of the past.
