Some people do not take the threats of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seriously, explaining that while the Iranian leader makes a lot of noise, ultimately, he is not the man in charge.
Well if you are one of those people then perhaps you will begin worrying now since the latest round of threats surrounding a strike against Tehran did not come from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but from the country’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“Our enemies, particularly the Zionist regime, America and its allies, should know that any kind of threat and attack or even thinking about any action will be firmly responded to,” the television quoted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as saying. The ayatollah vows his revolutionary guard will repel any and all attacks and strike back at those responsible.
The latest diatribe comes amid growing international media attention on Iran and a possible or likely Israeli military strike. Most feel that this was the last straw, the release of the IAEA report this week which confirmed Israeli intelligence evaluations, stating a nuclear Iran is about to become a reality. The report basically states there is no longer an hope that sanctions and negotiations would prevent Iran from achieving nuclear independence.
Foreign media reports quoting “senior” officials in the British government as predicting an Israeli attack within two months, citing early 2012 at the latest.
Russia and China have both released statements indicating they will not support stiffer UN sanctions against Iran, and without their support, such a resolution would not pas in the Security Council.
