(Written by a YW reader🙂 This Thursday night/Friday, the seventh day of Cheshvan, is the yahrtzeit of HaRav Meir Shapiro, ZATZAL – R’ Yehuda Meir ben R’ Yaakov Shimshon – who dedicated his life to passing the light of Torah on to future generations. HaRav Shapiro was one of the most Prominent Rabonim in Europe, Leader of Agudas Yisroel in Eastern Europe, builder and Rosh Yeshiva of Chachmei Lublin and most relevant for many, founder of the Daf Yomi Program. He passed away at the age of 46. Although he was childless, his legacy continues with the tens of thousands who have studied and continue to study the Daf Yomi program.
To all those who have benefited from the study of Daf Yomi, or from the students of the Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, we suggest that you do any/all of the following on his yahrtzeit l’ilui nishmaso:
Give Tzedaka in his memory
Learn Torah – especially Mishnayos
Give Tikun in your Shul Friday morning
Dedicate your Daf Yomi Shiur or Daf Yomi study, or review the Daf one extra time, in his memory.
There have been only a few great men over the last one hundred years who have left such an indelible imprint on the lives of so many across the globe. Please remember to show your honor and your Hakaras HaTov!

On the eve of the 7th Adar, Reb Meir zt”l’s birthday, the talmidim of Yachal would divide up kol hatorah koolah Tanach, shas, shulchan orech, etc and learn through the night and made a siyum on kol hatorah koolah. This was Reb Meir’s birthday present. To those that participate with thousands of other in their community in a “siyum al kol hatorah koolah” in the course of a year, before you pat yourselves on the back, remember a few hundred talmidim in Yachal did it in one day.

I remember hearing a particular story once about the impact R’Meir Shapiro’s mother had on him.I belive it was said over at the daf yomi siyum HaShas .Can anyone remember the story?
Yes, the story goes like this:
One day little (R’) Meir was sick and stayed home from school (cheider), and like any other young boy, he enjoyed the day off. Upon seeinig his rejoyce, his mother cried and said to him: “Du fershteist nisht vos dos meint a tog lernen!” (You have no clue what it means a day of learning!”)
