The FDNY & NYPD scrambled to rescue three construction workers after a building under construction in Brighton Beach collapsed. The workers were trapped under the rubble of the five-story building at 2922 Brighton 5th Street after the fourth story collapsed, sending the lower floors cascading down. The collapse occurred shortly before 3 p.m. By about 3:25 p.m., all the trapped workers were believed to be rescued.
It took firefighters over 30 minutes to dig through the rubble by hand and bring the three workers out to safety.
A total of five people were injured in the collapse.
