It is also notable that the Conservative movement has been outside of acceptable Jewish practice far longer than you assume. At least as far back as in the early 1950s there are formal rulings (by such as the preeminent Orthodox legal decisor Rabbi Moshe Feinstein among others) that the Conservatives are not considered to be practicing Judaism and is considered heretical.
