Another Nuclear Facility In Syria

United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors have discovered another facility in Syria, in the northeast, a facility that is believed to have been used for nuclear enrichment in the past. In an effort to hide the facility from the international community, it has been converted to a factory.

IAEA inspectors have obtained correspondence between Syria and Abdul Qadeer Khan, the architect of Pakistan’s nuclear program, suggesting he was instrumental in the Syrian program as well.

Back in 2007, the international media reported that Israel destroyed Syria’s nuclear facility located Dir Azur, in the northeastern part of the country, but now the additional facility has been uncovered.

Syria has not been cooperating with international inspectors and is believed to be working with both Iran and N. Korea towards advancing its nuclear agenda. While inspectors are not able to get a good look inside, satellite imagery points to a striking similarity to Pakistani plans connected to Khan.

The most recent Syrian refusal to cooperate with IAEA inspectors was a recent as last week.
