moshe rabeinu was & will always be the most humble person ever. He (the leader of klal yisroel) made himself equal to every yid that spoke to him. even the lowest of them. just to make them feel comfortable to speak to their leader. he would not accept any respect openly from any person in the world although he knew who he was (sure klal yisroel respected him but not face to face cause Moshe rabeiniu remembered the key to success of humility. he remembered where he came from & where he is heading etc… dust & ashes etc…)

STORY

many years ago There was a great Rabbi & his wagon driver who were passing through a small town & it was almost Shabbos. at that time the rabbi was not well known & him & his wagon driver went to shul & after davening were hoping to be invited over for a meal. there was a poor man who didn’t have much & he saw that no one invite the rabbi & the wagon driver so he went over to them & said I don’t have much but you can join me & my wife for the Shabbos meals. They joined him for a simple but lovely meal & after Shabbos continued on their journey.

Many years later, when this rabbi had become famous he was again passing through the same town he had passed many years earlier on an erev Shabbos. Seeing the famous rabbi, the wealthiest person of the town approached the rabbi & his wagon driver and assisted he come to join them for Shabbos. The great rabbi looked at the rich man & said, many years ago I came into town & you didn’t even notice me, the only difference now is that now I have more horses, so you can keep my horses in your stables but I am going to join the poor man that hosted us when we first came through this town. The rabbi & wagon driver then had a simple & lovely Shabbos at the poor mans house & the rich man learned a valuable lesson
