Attempted Burglaries In Far Rockaway

nypd logo.jpgThis past Motzei Shabbos and Sunday morning, many residents of Far Rockaway were trading stories of burglaries having taken place on Motzei Shabbos in the community. A police chopper was seen hovering over the houses – leaving residents to wonder.

Here are the facts, provided by Capt. Brian McMahon, commanding officer of the 101st Precinct, to the Five Towns Jewish Times:

“At around 10:00PM, a man got up on the roofs of two homes, one on Beck Road and one on Henry Road, seemingly to enter the houses through a second-story window. Fortunately, both houses were occupied, and the owners scared him away. (At one house there was an altercation with the suspect, but he managed to escape). At a house on Virginia Street, near Alonzo, it seems the same suspect tried to push in some window screens. The owner of that house, who is the proprietor of Five Towns Protective Service, had the latest alarmed window screens, so before the suspect could try to open a window, the alarm was triggered. Again, the suspect fled.

The police are confident that this suspect will be easy to find: you see, at each house he left blood stains! He must have cut himself at the first house he attempted to burglarize, and continued bleeding during his “crime spree.” The police crime lab is currently matching the blood smears taken from all the houses, and will soon have a match. They also believe that this was the lone work of a drug user, who was obviously not a professional, and who may have been high as he was attempting to rob houses that he couldn’t even tell were occupied!”

Remember to have all windows securely locked – even on the second floor – and thanks to the work of the NYPD who were on the scene instantly with all their available resources.

  1. good point greeaseball your right we can never provent all crime only one difference in lakewood we are bringing it on ourselves by letting this garbage into our neighborhood its not just an one time accurance of a druggy looking for a hit its to the point that anything that is not bolted down or brought inside is stolen

  2. what a silly comment cant you tell a differance this guy is no profesional and this happens all the time in lakewood with the people “we tend to hire” it just dont make it into the news as there are bigger and greater crimes unfrtunately.
And besides as my mother taght me 2 wrongs dont make it right!!!

  3. Greaseball, you’re right. Crime is something that is seen all over. Urban areas or suburban areas with a population that is low on the socio-economic scale have higher crime incidents rates. (See http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/cvict_c.htm). That’s why Lakewood is trying to work to limit immigrants and other low socio-economic dwellers such as those mentioned to be living in the so-called “slum-housing.” You’re right on in mentioning that crime is a danger everyone. Let’s encourage Lakewood to continue working to lessen crime.

  4. While this wasn’t the original topic, it became the issue of illegals that we hire. I think maybe someone should open a heimishe cleaning agency perhaps. It should not be beneath one’s dignity to do honest work and the pay could be justifiably a little more. But, I’d rather pay a heimishe woman $15 an hour rather than $9 or $10 for someone else. I think there are many women who actually don’t even know how to clean their own homes anymore, and are training their children to grow up the same way, dependent on outsiders to do their basic home cleaning. I think it is a big shame. I always did all my cleaning and my children helped pitch it and they know how to keep their own homes clean and it was to their benefit.

  5. What do you mean Greaseball “you see not just in lakewood there is crime” unfortunately there is crime all over the world.
