Lesson 5 – What’s with the period on the upper-left of ASCII art drawings?
For some reason, the first line of any ASCII art drawing loses all leading spaces, even when a backtick is placed before the picture.
Putting any character after the backtick seems to prevent this from happening.
Since the period is the least obtrusive character, that’s what we use after the backtick, to preserve leading spaces on the first line of our art.
If the drawing is starting in position one of the line anyway, no period is needed.
That’s it.
You all know as much as I do now.
May I please be excused? My brain is empty (and I’d ? some sleep. Lullaby, and good night ??????…).
