I beg to differ, but I was always told that SHLEMAZEL, not Shlemiel, means someone with no mazel, and derives from the Hebrew, “Shalom, Mazel,” literally, bye bye, Mazel. Shlomi-Kel literally means, “G-d is my Peace.” I do not know how it came to be a derisive description, but the Zimri reference can explain this, and ultimately a Shlemiel is a sloppy and unfortunate person who is always doing the wrong thing, and just can’t get it right. To get the best definition of both words, it is said that a Shlemiel drops a bowl of hot soup on a Shlemazel.
