People who feel Yiddish is THE heilige Jewish language are responding to conditioning by their Yeshivos or family backgrounds. If their parents/grandparents only spoke English or some other language, their emotional connection would be to that language. It is true Yiddish was a great unifier for Jews who needed unity, but had they spoken Hebrew, THAT would have been the unifying language, and we wouldn’t be having this discussion here. Also, it is true that there are some expressions that are just untranslatable into another language, and bear the authenticity of Yiddish, but that is true for all language.
