Op-Ed: Ed Koch Is A Fraud Regarding Israel

As reported here at YWN today, former NYC Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, is fully supporting President Obama’s re-election effort. Koch wrote, “The President should be praised for intervening with the Egyptian army to save the Israeli diplomatic personnel from physical assault, and providing the Israeli military with bunker buster bombs, advanced military technology and providing military intelligence cooperation far exceeding his predecessors. I’m now on board the Obama Reelection Express.”

This is Ludicrous! First, the Egyptian incident took place before the NY9 vote and I don’t recall Koch coming out in the last few days of the campaign asking people to reconsider their “message” to Obama. Secondly, the sale of the Bunker Busters was approved back in 2007 by former President George W. Bush whose administration made it clear – according to Newsweek – it will be delivered within two-three years. Obama didn’t block the transfer. Great! In this case, how about Koch backs Obama for not blocking the $3 billion in aid that Israel receives each year from the United States?

  1. Mr. Gestetner, it may be worthwhile to first learn the nuances of English before lambasting Mr Koch.
Writing “This is Ludicrous” does not help your point as a so called professional writer.
Neither is your grammatically incorrect sentence “In this case, how about Koch backs Obama for not blocking the $3 billion in aid that Israel receives each year from the United States?.”

  2. FRAUD?

I hate to break it but anyone who has followed Mr. Koch knows that he is a typical liberal Democrat. He said himself, even while endorsing Turner, that he would not necessarily oppose Obama in 2012 and all he was doing was sending a message of extreme discontent. He sent the message and figures that Obama received it. Please explain where exactly is the fraudulent position here?

  3. Kol ha kavod for exposing this!!

Mr Yitzchokm, there’s NOTHING wrong with this author’s grammar or his ‘nuances’, professional or not!

If you disagree with his point of view, you are free to do so by simply stating why! By simply trying to discredit him because of his ‘English’ or purported lack thereof, you are simply discrediting yourself

  4. Ido-
The writer comes across as an amateur, not as a professional he makes himself out to be.

Mr. Gestetner was happy to let Mr Turner slide when it came to the gay marriage issue. Talk about a fraud.

  5. It seems to me the issue we should be calling out Mr. Koch on is the substantive one, namely how can you trust President Obama to stand by Israel when you won’t have his re-election to hold over him? If you are so concerned about US policy on Israel and you trust Republican Bob Turner more than the Democrats, what really changed because Obama made a strong speech at the UN?

  6. nitpicker:

You are most certainly correct, though my point was that anyone who is familiar his views at all would have understood that he did not become a right wing Republican over night. Gestetner seems in absolute shock that he would actually endorse Obama.

  7. Ed Koch was always a strange fellow, a rather queer gentleman in fact. I pay little attention to his utterances, but my memories of his time as Mayor are of friends getting mugged in broad daylight and a dirty, graffiti-filled city with decreasing property values and lots of no-go zones.
