Unable to get the apology he so badly seeks from Israel, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan continues efforts to isolate Israel in the international community. In his latest move, Erdogan is calling for UN sanctions against Israel, insisting such a move would significantly boost peace-making efforts between Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority).
“Until today, the UN Security Council has issued more than 89 resolutions on prospective sanctions related to Israel, but they’ve never been executed. And furthermore, there were about 200 resolutions issued by the General Assembly and neither have those been complied with” stated the Turkish leader.
He added that there is no hesitation towards implementing sanctions against Iran, but when it comes to Israel, there appears to be a double standard.
He did not stop there, but targeted the permanent members of the Security Council. While not mentioning the United States by name, it was clear that he was lashing out against the announced White House decision to veto a PA vote on statehood. He questioned the validity of continuing to give such authority to the permanent members of the council, calling for the elimination of the special status.
