Poverty in New York City is on the rise, as the latest U.S. Census figures show an estimated 20.1 percent of New Yorkers were living below the poverty line in 2010.
That is an increase from 18.7 percent in 2009.
According to census estimates, 30 percent of New Yorkers under the age of 18 were living below the poverty line last year.
Close to 28 percent of Hispanic New Yorkers and 23 percent of African-American New Yorkers were also living below the poverty line in 2010.
