Also, we, as humans, have an obligation to not mistreat our world. That obligation manifests in various ways such as the prohibition of tzaar baalei chayim and baal tashchit. However, we absolutely do NOT have an obligation, or even a mitzvah, to adopt stray animals for the sake of saving them from starvation or “to provide them with love”. That’s completely misplaced compassion.
