Wednesday Morning News Briefs From Eretz Yisrael


Labor Party second round elections today, with Amir Peretz competing against Shelly Yacimovich for the party’s leadership slot.

** PM Netanyahu arrives in the US on Wednesday and he will be meeting with President Obama in NYC, both set to attend United Nations events.

** Dozens of right-wing activists marched against a Palestinian state on Tel Aviv’s Rothschild Boulevard Tuesday night.

Tuesday, 19:33: The lifeless body of a 3-y/o Bedouin child was found in a locked vehicle near Segev in the Negev. Paramedic tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the toddler.

** MK Dr. Michael Ben-Ari: We came home to remain here forever. I am for a Palestinian state, in France or Canada. Israel is the Jewish Homeland. It was never Palestinian, and hopefully it never will be.

** MK Yaakov Katz told Kol Chai Radio: Sikrikim are a group of 15 or less sick individuals, mentally ill, and they should be placed under administrative detention to remove the threat from the community. They are terrorists. They prey on the community residents, instilling fear among the community.

** Widespread celebrations expected throughout the day in Ramallah, including Kikar Manara and Kikar Arafat. Heavy PA security vows to prevent spillover to Israeli areas, such as Kalandia, a northern border of Jerusalem.
