Ten people, a family that resides in Jerusalem’s Old City and a guest were walking home from the Kosel on Friday night when attackers whose faces were covered by kafias (Arab head dress) attacked them with cinderblocks. The attack took place near Shar HaPrachim (Herod’s Gate).
The five masked attackers “appeared from nowhere” explain the family members, detailing how the assailants began throwing the concrete blocks at them and security guards in the area.
They first tried to stand snugly against a wall in a defensive move but when they realized it did not help, since the attackers were only 15 meters (yards) away, they tried a different position, fearing, for their lives, scrambling to find cover. They add the attackers had smashed the area security cameras as well, prompting them to realize this was not going to be seen by anyone monitoring cameras.
The mother explained that rock-throwing attacks in the area near their home are commonplace, but this time they used concrete blocks, simply trying to murder them.
Police have announced the suspects in the attack are in custody.

Israeli police will release them citing the need to maintain ties with the community.

It would be a good idea to have the cameras in cages so they can’t be smashed.
It would be an even better idea to allow any Jew living anywhere in Israel with a clean criminal and mental health record to carry a firearm. Unfortunately, the State of Israel makes it harder for their law abiding citizens to purchase and carry firearms than the United States does for its own citizens. Shameful, really.
surely ie you smash a security camera from the eye (outside) you would still have the video saved on internal memory.
#4 it was Friday night. How would the guns have helped them? As far as I know, (and I don’t know alot about this) it is much easier to carry guns in Israel than here. I’ve seen civilians walking down Rechov Yaffo with guns (I think they were civilians. They weren’t wearing uniforms).
#6 (ahavas_yisroel) – The ‘civilians’ you see carrying weapons are either soldiers on an off (vacation) day from the army, or civilians who live in particularly dangerous areas (like the Shomron) and got permits from the government because of where they live (or other exceptional circumstances) or, are part of Mishmar Ezrachi – the armed civilian patrol (folks who have been in the military or taken a course from the police, and volunteer to patrol urban or suburban areas.
Unfortunately, as #4 (Muki) said, the government does NOT “allow any Jew living anywhere in Israel with a clean criminal and mental health record to carry a firearm.
